The Little Words Mean the Most

How lazy people think: Episode 1

You need ice for a tall drink. You open the freezer compartment. There are two rubber ice cube trays within. Now, these aren't just any rubber ice cube trays. These are oversized-cube trays. These cubes can be twice as large as average cubes. And they're a favorite with serious home bartenders, because one of these giants won't melt as fast as a couple of smaller cubes. The drink stays cold but isn't watered down. That's what I wanted. And there were two trays of these giant cubes. One tray was completely full. There were six cubes formed, hard and ready. The other tray was down by two thirds: it only had two giant cubes left. Here's what the lazy person thinks: I'll take one cube out of the full tray. No one expects me to refill just one hole. Whereas if I take one cube from the tray that only has two left, I really should just empty the tray into the ice storage bin and refill the tray with fresh water. That would be the helpful, polite, considerate, loving thing to do. Which I'd love to be if it were easy. But it means filling an entire tray with water.
