Daytrip to Port Vendres on the Spanish border, where the Pyrenees tuck themselves into the sea. The town hosted Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his "genius" wife, Margaret Macdonald, until his death. He asked that his ashes be scattered in the Port Vendres harbor. He spent his last years painting there and around. There's a Mackintosh Trail, with 13 items displayed on stands where they would have orginally been painted. He was a notable architect, designer, and artist; and we've seen his work in his native Scotland. We fit in a tasting at a Port Vendres wine store. Fab & I bought framed pieces from a "matting artist" having a little exhibit. That's a 1930's magazine ad for a regionally made "cooked wine" called Byrrh.
