Union Pier, MI is a summer resort-ish getaway for Chicago folk. Endless beaches, quality boutiques, ferocious mosquitoes. We gather there once a year with our once a year friends, Alene and Jim (residents), Paul and Marilyn (Detroit), Lee and Steve (DC), and Simone plus me. The female side met through the State Arts Advocacy League of America, a bunch of super-heroes. You probably read the comic. We'd all love to see each other more often. Dogs play a big part. Froehlich's in Three Oaks makes the best franks in the world; thrice-ground beef and pork, I'm told. Oink's in New Buffalo has North America's largest ice cream scoop collection and service faster than light. Mac the golden retriever has MacBeth's nose. And Steve can't decide: Will this well-weathered sign for sale at Ipso Facto make the kitchen better or worse?
